Our Brief Sojourn

Recently, a friend told me the sad news that she'd had a death in her family. Yesterday my son called to ask for prayer and told me that his precious wife, our daughter-in-law, had been hit head on by another vehicle as she was pulling out of their garage on her way to work.
Miraculously, she sustained only minor injuries, but her car was totaled and she could have been killed.

I praise our merciful God for sparing her life!
Our sojourn on this earth is so brief. Moses wrote in Psalm 90:10, 12:
"Our days may come to seventy years,or eighty, if our strength endures;
Lord, Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

Life is also so random. Anything can happen at any time any day. But when you know and walk with the Lord Jesus Christ you have full assurance of your eternal dwelling place. You know that His word promises He will never forsake those who have put their hope in Him. All those who have committed their lives to Christ are sealed with the living Spirit of Christ. They are eternally inseperable.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon is one of my favorite Bible teachers. A reformed Baptist preacher, he lived and preached in England during the 19th century. He wrote many sermons, devotionals and inspirational books.
The following excerpt is from his devotional "Morning and Evening." May it bless and comfort you as much as it did me.

Morning, June 29
"Them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."
1 Thessalonians 4:14

Let us not imagine that the soul sleeps in insensibility.
"Today shalt thou be with me in paradise," is the whisper of Christ to every dying
saint.
They "sleep in Jesus," but their souls are before the throne of God,
praising him day and night in his temple, singing hallelujahs to him
who washed them from their sins in his blood.
The body sleeps in its lonely bed of earth, beneath the coverlet of grass.
But what is this sleep? The idea connected with sleep is "rest,"
and that is the thought which the Spirit of God would convey to us.
Sleep makes each night a Sabbath for the day.

Sleep shuts fast the door of the soul, and bids all intruders tarry for a while,
that the life within may enter its summer garden of ease.
The toil-worn believer quietly sleeps, as does the weary child
when it slumbers on its mother's breast.
Oh! happy they who die in the Lord; they rest from their labours,
and their works do follow them. Their quiet repose shall never be broken…”

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, please bless and encourage all those who have suffered the loss of loved ones or friends this week, or who will soon face such grief. Thy word says You are close to the brokenhearted and that You bind up their wounds. Fill their souls with rivers of Thy love, grace, peace and hope; give them faith to know that their loved ones are safe with You. Thank You, Lord, in Jesus' name, amen.

Your Life Is A Beautiful Blessing

Prayer

Thank You, Heavenly Father, that Your love for us is as measureless as time itself.
Teach us how to see ourselves through Your eyes and to love and to value ourselves as You love and value each one of us.
Your word says that we are "gifts and treasures that You delight in..." (Ephesians 1:11 Living Bible)
Lord, "shed abroad the love of God in our hearts today by Thy Holy Spirit..." In Jesus' name.
Thank You. We love You. Amen.

Savior of My Soul~A Prayer Song

Savior of My Soul
 Prayer Song © 2011 S.D. Harden All Rights Reserved

O, I will trust the living God,
The Savior of my soul-
I may not understand His ways
But He is in control.

My path may be obscure

And in the darkness lie,
But I will hope in Jesus

Who holds me in His eye.

He will not forget me

For I have been engraved
Upon His holy hands;
For Him my soul is saved.

For Him I am redeemed,
For Him I am reserved;

For Him I am a trophy
Of His grace to be preserved.

And though I sit in darkness
With trees that will not bud,
I have a promise from the Lord
That spring will surely come.

Though winter struts along

Like it will never end;
It’s just a giant’s shadow~
The spring He soon will send.

God’s promises are sure

Though I must walk by faith;
Such wonder in believing;
Such hope it generates!

Oh I will trust the living God,

The Savior of my soul;
O Lord, you know the paths I take,
For You are in control.

Yes, You are in control;

You know what’s best for me;
You’ve set apart unto Your heart
Those who will but believe.

And you will keep your promises

To those who trust in You
Though they may not understand

The mysteries of Truth.

Though I sit in darkness
On a path I had not planned
I will trust I am engraved
Upon Your holy hand.

And You will keep Your promises,
For You are in control,
O You will not forget me,
O Savior of my soul.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance that You are always in control of all things. Thy word says in Psalm 103:19, "The Lord has prepared His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom rules over all," and in Hebrews 1:3 that You "uphold all things by the word of Your power."

Romans 8:8 assures me that every detail of my life is being orchestrated by You into something grand and beautiful and for my ultimate good because You care very much about each one of us.
Psalm 138:8 promises that You will "fulfill Your plans for my life." So I don't need to worry about whether or not I am going to accomplish Your will for me. You will get me on the path I need to be on. And all I need to do is Trust You.

Lord, though it is so difficult sometimes, please help each of us to trust You when we cannot see past the bend in the road, when we cannot fathom Your purposes for us in the path we are on. Help us to trust You when nothing makes sense. Help us to keep our eyes on You anyway; to know that You are in control and that You cherish each of us beyond what we could ever imagine or believe.

May the sense of Your abiding presence sustain every person praying this prayer. May they feel You with them as they never have before. May You renew their faith, fill them with new hope, and give them joy.

Thank You, dear Lord, I love You, In Jesus' name. Amen.

The God of All Comfort

THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT

2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (TLB)

"What a wonderful God we have—He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts
and strengthens us in our hardships and trials.

And why does He do this?
So that when others are troubled,
needing our sympathy and encouragement,
we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.

You can be sure that the more we undergo sufferings for Christ,
the more He will shower us with His comfort and encouragement.

We are in deep trouble for bringing you God’s comfort and salvation.
But in our trouble God has comforted us—and this, too, to help you:
to show you from our personal experience how God will tenderly comfort you
when you undergo these same sufferings.

He will give you the strength to endure."

The verses above written by St. Paul over 2000 years ago to the Corinthian Church are some of my favorite scriptures. "God is the Source of EVERY MERCY! God is the ONE who comforts us and strengthens us and manages to get us through all of our trials if we will only turn to Him and trust Him.

I ran across a beautiful post recently by gifted writer Bella Alex-Nosagie, who so brilliantly articulated this message that I'm going to re-share it here (with her permission!)

 Bella Alex-Nosagie ~July 16, 2016 ~Google

"Let me take this a little further and remind you of something. God created you with so much love. He is the one that applauds every milestone you take in life.
He weeps when you weep and rejoices when you rejoice.
When it feels like no one is there, God is.
Turn your face to Him always.
The Bible is His love letter to you to encourage you and empower you.
Don't despair, God loves you and that love is more than enough for me.
When I'm really having hard days I hide myself in His word and turn on the music praising and worshipping Him. I find out I feel much better when I've told Him everything I'm sad about.
Have a blessed day! ~Bella Alex-Nosagie

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your measureless love toward each of us.  Thank You that You are a God who lives inside of us through Your Holy Spirit, who knows all about us, who cares very much about every detail of our lives. Thank You that You care so deeply about our personal lives and that You long for us to turn all our cares & burdens over to You so that You might not only comfort & encourage us, but also empower us to meet all our challenges through the supernatural strength of Christ Jesus. You long to give us the wisdom to navigate through the murky waters that we sometimes encounter on our paths. All we have to do is ask. Thank You, precious Father God~We love You! in Jesus' name, Amen.

Trust in God

Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trust in God © S.D. Harden

Lord, help me to trust in You
With all my heart and soul,
Guide me down Your holy paths,
Make me Your will to know:
And when Your way is shrouded
Help me not to fear,
For You are ever with me, Lord,
Even when my path's not clear.
For You are guiding me by faith
~A whisper in my ear,
Telling me this is the way,
So I need never fear...
You'll guide me as I trust in You
For You are ever near.
